Neue Bücher von Amazon

Ein paar vorbestellte Bücher wurden endlich geliefert, aber auch eine neue Bestellung. Ich habe mir wieder eine bunte Mischung gegönnt: ein weiteres Business-Englisch-Buch, Fantasy, Romantik, Psychologie, das neueste von Tony Bennett und zwei neue Donau-Bücher. Eine Swing-CD war auch dabei.

Die Buchhandlung der verlorenen Worte

Wieder einmal lese ich einen Roman, der in einer Buchhandlung spielt - eines meiner Lieblingsthemen. In der U-Bahn habe ich noch nicht viel gelesen, aber bestimmt wird mir das Buch gefallen, Buchhandlungen oder Büchereien in einer Romanhandlung liebe ich einfach und habe auch schon eine große Sammlung.

In meinem neuen Buch geht es um die Viktorianische Ära - es ist ein Ratgeber, wie Frauen sich zu Kleiden und zu Benehmen haben, und es geht um die Ehe und um Sex. Ich habe bisher erst ein Kapitel gelesen, was man damals alles Anziehen musste, beginnend von Unterwäsche, Korsett, Unterhosen, Unterröcken etc. bis man endlich zum Kleid kam. Bisher gefällt es mir sehr gut, und ich finde es total interessant.

Schnelle Vampire

Am Donnerstag habe ich das neue Buch von Matt Haig ausgelesen und es hat mich wieder sehr begeistert. Das Thema war ein Ernstes: unsere schnelllebige Welt mit Smartphones und Computern, und was diese technischen Neuerungen mit unserer Seele anstellen. Matt Haig beschreibt es aber sehr ehrlich - und verweist auch immer wieder auf seine Depressionen - und mit sehr viel Humor.

 

Jetzt freue ich mich auf die Vorweihnachtszeit und seine Kinderbuchserie, wo ich den dritten Teil lesen werde, den vierten aber schon vorbestellt habe.

 

Begonnen habe ich am Freitag dann ein weiteres Vampirbuch, das sogar zum Teil im viktorianischen London spielt. Das Buch ist aber bisher äußerst langweilig und ich werde es wohl nur noch querlesen bis zum Ende. Ich fürchte, "The Quick" werden es auf meine absolute Flop-Liste 2018 schaffen.

Das Leben in unserer technischen Zeit

Gestern Nachmittag habe ich meine "Wuthering Heights"-Anthologie ausgelesen - passend zu Regenwetter und Sturmwarnung. Die Geschichten waren nicht schlecht, aber mir ein wenig zu düster. Unerwiderte Liebe und Betrug mag schlimm sein, aber so viele Geschichten darüber waren mir dann doch zu viel.

Heute habe ich dann mit dem neuen Buch von Matt Haig begonnen. Mir gefällt ja besonders gut seine Kinderbuchserie über den Jungen namens Weihnacht, auch sein Buch über seine Depressionen habe ich sehr gut gefunden. Sein neues Werk passt da auch zu diesem Thema: wie wir in der heutigen Zeit - mit Facebook, Instagram und Co, leben und wie unser Leben von der Technik beherrscht wird. Es geht aber auch wieder um Ängste und Sorgen, um Menschlichkeit in einer immer schnelleren Welt.

In den letzten Tagen und Wochen hat Amazon wieder einige Päckchen geliefert - wie üblich, meistens einzeln. Ein paar Bücher sind noch ausständig, aber dafür wurden auch welche geliefert, die ich schon lange vorbestellt hatte. Zwei CD's waren auch dabei.

 

Meine Ausbeute umfasst ein weiteres Sachbuch über das viktorianische London, mit den Schlagworten meiner letzten Romanentdeckungen auf diesem Gebiet (Murder, Mayhem, Music Hall) musste ich es einfach kaufen. Außerdem die moderne Fassung von Macbeth und einen Roman, der Lady Macbeths Geschichte erzählt. Ein Buch über Bücher, das nur knapp über 3 Euro gekostet hat, Lektüre für Allerheiligen und Krampus, eine Folgeband zur All Souls-Trilogie von Deborah Harkness, und ein Buch über englische Grammatik (für den Englisch-Unterricht im Büro).

 

Bei den CD's gab es das neue Duett-Album von Tony Bennett und Diana Krall, sowie zum 100. Geburtstag von Leonard Bernstein "Jazz Loves Bernstein".

Kurzgeschichten zu Wutherhing Heights

Nachdem ich am Donnerstag schon das extrem gute Buch über den Faschismus von Madeleine Albright ausgelesen habe, habe ich mich für einen Kurzgeschichten-Band entschieden. "Facism - A Warning" sollte Pflichtlektüre bei allen mündigen Wählern werden!

 

Wie schon bei "Reader, I married him" fehlen mir auch bei meinem neuen Buch die Bezüge zu "Ur"-Geschichte, in dem Fall zu Wuthering Heights. Die Stories sind auch ein bisschen düster und destruktiv, aber nicht schlecht.

Eine politische Warnung

Heute Morgen habe ich mit einem neuen Buch begonnen, einer Warnung vor dem Faschismus der ehemaligen Außenministerin der USA, Madeleine Albright. Ich habe in der U-Bahn erst 15 Seiten geschafft, freue mich aber gleich aufs Weiterlesen. Madeleine Albright ist eine kluge Frau, die so Einiges zu sagen hat.

Wein und Literatur

Der Titel meines neuen Buches ist total irreführend - der Literatur kommt in diesem Buch nur in einem einzigen Kapitel vor. Ansonsten geht es um die Herstellung von Wein, um verschiedene Weinanbaugebiete und die Besonderheiten verschiedener Weine. Österreich kommt nicht mal auf einer Seite vor, einzig Riedel-Gläser werden einmal erwähnt. Das Buch ist nicht schlecht, aber nicht das, was ich erwartet hatte.

Neue Lektüre

Schon am Freitag habe ich den zweiten Band der Kitty Peck-Reihe ausgelesen und war wieder total begeistert. Das Buch hat sich total schnell gelesen und jetzt habe ich leider nur noch für nächstes Monat den drittel Teil der Serie.

Gestern habe ich dann mit einem Roman begonnen, der eigentlich mein Lieblingsthema "Bücher" zum Thema hat: ein Liebesroman, der in einer Buchhandlung spielt. Ich habe erst knapp 40 Seiten gelesen, bin aber noch nicht recht überzeugt. Es liest sich nicht schlecht, aber irgendwie sehr hölzern und so gar nicht mitreißend. Mal sehen, wie der Roman weitergeht. Kitty war eine wunderbare Protagonistin, Nina aus diesem Buch ist eine echte Schlaftablette...

Kitty Peck zum Zweiten

Am Montag habe ich das Anfänger-Jazz-Buch gewesen und es hat mir sehr gut gefallen. Der Autor ist auch auf die Standards eingegangen und es gab auch Wissenswertes zum Modern Jazz und Free Jazz bis in die Gegenwart. Tolles Buch.

Gestern Früh habe ich dann mit dem zweiten Teil der Kitty Peck begonnen, heute habe ich schon mehr als 130 Seiten gelesen. Kate Griffin's Stil ist einfach mitreißend und man merkt gar nicht, wie schnell die Seiten nur so verfliegen.

Neue Amazon-Raten

Amazon liefert immer noch fast jedes Buch einzeln aus - so kann ich sie einfach nach Hause tragen und vielleicht denkt Amazon ja daran? Irgendwie finde ich es schon seltsam, das jede Bestellung in Raten versendet wird, ich akzeptiere es mittlerweile aber und kann mich so öfters über ein Packerl freuen.

 

Bekommen habe ich die übliche Mischung aus Sachbüchern und Romanen zum Thema Lesen und Bücher/Buchhandlungen, das neue Sachbuch von Matt Haig über unsere "moderne" Zeit sowie sein neues Kinder-Weihnachtsbuch aus meiner Lieblingsserie, einen weihnachtlichen Liebesroman und eine Anthologie mit modernen Erzählungen zu "Wuthering Heights".

Musikprojekt im August: Jazz

Wieder einmal lese ich für mein Musikprojekt ein Buch über Jazz, und wieder eine Einführung. Ich liebe solche Bücher, und sie sind doch alle sehr verschieden aufgebaut. In diesem Buch wird auch auf Sänger und Sängerinnen eingegangen, nicht nur auf instrumentale Musik.

König Lear

Bereits seit gestern Morgen lese ich ein neues Buch - und da die Hitzewelle vorbei ist, kann ich mich wieder auf interessante Fachbücher konzentrieren. Meine Lektüre ist daher ein Buch über Shakespeare's Protagonisten König Lear, aufbereitet vom wunderbaren Harold Bloom. King Lear habe ich selbst noch nicht gelesen, aber das Buch und Harold Blooms Deutung über den alternden König gefällt mir bereits sehr gut. Lesen werde ich das Drama auch nicht, viel zu traurig für mich.

Eine Reise um die Welt

Gestern auf der Heimfahrt habe ich meinen Fantasy-Roman ausgelesen. Er hat mir sehr gut gefallen, nur das Ende kam - nach einer riesigen Schlacht - etwas schnell. Auf mich hat das Ende auch ein wenig hingehudelt  gewirkt, trotzdem habe ich den Roman gerne gelesen.

 

Heute habe ich dann mit einem schon etwas älteren Buch begonnen, das ich bereits 2009 gekauft habe. Bisher gefällt es mir gut, aber es ist halt schon etwas altbacken, das die Erzählungen aus den frühen 1990er Jahren des letzten Jahrhunderts sind. Aber natürlich ist Peter Ustinov ein wundervoller Erzähler voller Witz und Charme und ich freue mich auf den Rest der Reise-Essays.

Fantasy-Roman

Leider habe ich gestern schon den zweiten und letzten Band über den Arzt Dr. Thomas Bond ausgelesen - davon hätte ich noch gerne mehr Bände gelesen. Aber da der gute Doktor von einem Vampir befallen war, hat er sich aus dem Fenster gestürzt, der Vampir hat dann einen jungen Mann als zukünftigen Wirten gefunden. Die Geschichte hat mir echt gut gefallen und deshalb habe ich mich mit dem viktorianischen England infiziert. Die Kitty-Peck-Serie spielt ja auch zu dieser Zeit und auf meiner Amazon-Wunschliste sind fünf weitere Bücher über London im Zeitalter der Königin Victoria gelandet: drei Sachbücher und zwei Romane.

Da es immer noch heiß ist und ich deshalb nichts Schwieriges lesen möchte, habe ich mich heute Früh für einen Fantasy-Roman entschieden, der schon länger drauf wartet, gelesen zu werden. Bisher gefällt er mir ganz gut, mal sehen ob die Spannung anhält. Was nach Sarah Pinborough schwierig wird.

Gestern Nachmittag habe ich den Bildband über Leonard Cohen ausgelesen. Vor Allem die Fotos haben mir sehr gut gefallen, weil auch viele private Bilder in dem Buch waren, und auch Konzertfotos, die ich noch nicht kannte.

 

Später werde ich dann mit dem zweiten Band über Dr. Thomas Bond beginnen. Ich freue mich zwar drauf, habe aber (leider) schon das Ende gelesen und mich damit selber gespoilert. Dr. Bond verübt am Ende des Buches Selbstmord, da er von einem Vampir besessen ist. Er stürzt sich einfach so aus dem dritten Stock eines Gebäudes. Von diesem Ende bin ich naturgemäß nicht sehr begeistert...

 

Aber auf der anderen Seite: Die Serie hat ein Ende, und ich muss mich nicht um weitere Bände bemühen. Bei Serien bin ich ja ein bisserl eigen, ich möchte dann immer alle Bände haben, jedenfalls wenn der erste Teil gut war und mir gefallen hat. Und hier kommt das böse Ende schon nach dem zweiten Teil und nicht erst im dritten, wie es mir bei zwei Fantasy-Serien passiert ist. Ich hoffe jedenfalls sehr stark, das mir das nicht auf bei Kitty Peck, meiner zweiten Serie aus dem viktorianischen London passiert.

Musikprojekt im August: Everybody Knows...

Gestern Nachmittag habe ich bereits mit dem August-Buch für mein Musikprojekt begonnen und etwa ein Drittel auch schon gelesen. Ich hoffe, es am Wochenende auch ganz auszulesen, denn für die Handtasche ist es mit seinem großen Format und dem Gewicht nicht wirklich tauglich. Bisher gefällt es mir sehr gut, und es gibt auch viele private Fotos vom großen und einzigartigen Leonard Cohen.

Zwischendurch-Buch

Da ich dieses Wochenende mit meinem Musik-Projektbuch für August beginnen möchte, da aber leider nicht handtaschentauglich ist, habe ich mich heute für die Fahrt zur Arbeit für ein dünnes Zwischendurch-Büchlein entschieden. Es war wenig Text und dann einige Seiten Fotos, und es hat mir ganz gut gefallen. Bei so wenigen Seiten kann man wohl nicht mehr erwarten und bei der Heimfahrt war es dann auch schon wieder ausgelesen.

Neu eingetroffene Bücher

In den letzten Wochen habe ich wieder einige Bücher von Amazon bekommen, wie immer eine bunte Mischung aus meinen Interessen.

 

Gekommen ist ein Buch über Jazz für mein Musik-Leseprojekt, und zwei weitere Fantasy-Bücher, darunter der zweite Teil einer Serie. Zu meinem Lieblingsthema "Bücher" kommt ein neuer Roman über eine Buchhandlung und eine wahre Geschichte aus Timbuktu. Das viktorianische London hat mich in den letzten Monaten schwer begeistert, deshalb ist auch der zweite Band über Dr. Thomas Bond bei mir eingezogen, ebenso wie Part zwei und drei über die 17-jährige Londonerin Kitty Peck. Und weil ich das viktorianische Zeitalter sehr spannend finde, und in beiden Romanen direkt in London sehr viel Opium geraucht wurde, habe ich mir auch noch einen "Ratgeber" für die Frauen im Zeitalter Queen Victorias bestellt.

 

Ich weiß noch gar nicht, was ich als nächstes Lesen soll...

Der Bücherwurm

Heute nach dem Frühstück habe ich meinen Krimi ausgelesen, eigentlich war er viel zu kurz. Und fast hätte ich ihn gestern schon ausgelesen, wollte mir aber dann die letzten 80 Seiten für heute aufheben. Ein tolles Buch mit einer jugendlichen, mutigen Protagonistin in einer überraschenden Geschichte. Jetzt muss ich mir halt leider die restlichen zwei Bände auch bestellen...

 

Am Nachmittag habe ich dann jetzt noch schnell mein neues Buch angelesen - das Vorwort und das erste Kapitel. Ein Buch, das ich auch hätte schreiben können, denn es geht um die Bücher, die man als Kind gelesen hat. Ich hab als Kind ja sehr viel gelesen und mir geht es irgendwie wir der Schriftstellerin: Lesen war immer interessanter, als mit anderen Kindern spielen. Ich war auch eine bücher-besessene Einzelgängerin. Der einzige Unterschied zwischen Lucy Mangan und mir sind die Kinderbücher selbst, denn ich habe mehr deutsche/österreichische gelesen und nur wenige internationale Literatur für Kinder.

Viktorianisches London II

Heute Abend habe ich die Ginger Rodgers-Biographie schnell quergelesen und beendet. Sie hat mir schon gut gefallen, und ich fand sie auch leicht zu lesen. Aber irgendwie bin ich nicht richtig vorwärtsgekommen, und es hat sich auch immer alles wiederholt und in ihrem Leben ist - bis auf 5 Ehen - alles so extrem glatt gegangen.

 

Heute habe ich dann noch das Vorwort zu einem weiteren Krimi, der im viktorianischen London spielt, begonnen. Das Vorwort gefällt mir schon mal sehr gut, und mit knapp 350 Seiten werde ich bestimmt am Wochenende damit fertig.
