Frauenprojekt im Dezember: The Lady of Irish Dance

Für mein Frauenprojekt habe ich mir im Dezember die Biographie einer großen Choreographin ausgesucht: Mary Duffy. Als Lehrerin und Trainerin hat sie viele Weltmeister des Irischen Tanzes gefördert und trainiert, später hat sie an Lord of the Dance mitgewirkt. Ich habe jetzt etwas mehr als die Hälfte der Biographie gelesen und sie gefällt mir sehr gut.

 

Für ein Monatsprojekt 2020 habe ich noch kein Thema ausgewählt, aber ich könnte mir gut vorstellen, wieder mehr Bücher über das Tanzen zu lesen. Mal sehen, da müsste ich mir halt noch etwas kaufen, denn ungelesene Bücher über das Tanzen habe ich nur eines oder zwei Zuhause.

Wie jedes Jahr habe ich auch in dieser Weihnachtszeit wieder "A Christmas Carol gelesen. Ich finde das Buch jedes Jahr wieder schön und schaue mir auch die entsprechenden Filme im Fernsehen immer an.

Weihnachts-Liebesroman

Schon am Freitag habe ich mit meiner alljährlichen Liebesschmonzette zum Thema Weihnachten begonnen. Wie immer, leicht zu lesen und mit viel Weihnachten im Roman. Über 400 Seiten sind vielleicht etwas zu lang, aber bisher ganz witzig.

Besinnliche Weihnachten

ist das Thema meines nächsten Weihnachtsbuches, und es geht darum, das Weihnachten nicht nur Kaufzwang und Stress bedeuten. Es geht auch über den religiösen Aspekt und Familientraditionen und den Zauber von Weihnachten. Ich habe etwa 60 Seiten gelesen und bisher gefällt es mir recht gut. Da ich aber sowieso nie im Weihnachtsstress bin, ist es aber vielleicht nicht das richtige Buch für mich und den Selbsttest, welcher Weihnachtstyp man ist, habe ich einfach übersprungen.

Ein Weihnachtskinderbuch

In den letzten Jahren haben mich die Weihnachtskinderbücher von Matt Haig verzaubert - und auch dieses Jahr fand ich "The Truth Pixie" total entzückend und es hat mich verzaubert. Leider war es in einem Tag auch schon wieder ausgelesen, und heuer kam kein neues Buch heraus. Ich hoffe, das es nächstes Jahr aber wieder Nachschub von Matt Haig und dem genialen Zeichner Chris Mould gibt.

Ein Tag im Dezember...

… ist der Titel meines neuen Weihnachtsbuches. Ich habe zwar erst etwas über 60 Seiten gelesen, finde es aber bisher eher langweilig. Ob ich mich über 400 Seiten und 10 lange Romanjahre durchquälen kann, bis die beiden Protagonisten sich bekommen - ich bezweifle es. Aber vielleicht wird das Buch ja noch besser. Ich kann allerdings ganz gut verstehen, warum es letzten Jahr im EVVA-Bücherkarusell gelandet ist.

 

Mein drittes Weihnachtsbuch:

Züge, Schnee und Weihnachten

Mein erstes Buch im Dezember ist natürlich wieder ein Weihnachtsbuch, ich werde es heute Nachmittag auch noch auslesen. Ich habe letztes Jahr auf YouTube den Film gesehen und als ich gelesen habe, das es eine Buchvorlage gibt, diese auch gleich gekauft. Zum Lesen bin ich allerdings erst in diesem Dezember gekommen.

Mein zweites Weihnachtsbuch:

Es weihnachtet

Für mein letztes Buch im November habe ich mich für das erste Weihnachtsbuch in diesem Jahr entschieden. Morgen ist ja schon der erste Advent, da passt es auch ganz gut. Ich habe etwa die Hälfte schon gelesen und bin begeistert. Sollte ich mal im Lotto gewinnen, dann mache ich mir auch eine Buchhandlung auf...

Petra HARTLIEB
Weihnachten in der wundervollen Buchhandlung

… oder beinahe tot«, denkt sich die Wiener Buchhändlerin Petra Hartlieb, wenn irgendwann im November der Weihnachtswahnsinn beginnt. Jeder Tisch, jedes Regal, jede noch so kleine Lücke in ihrem Laden ist gefüllt mit den Büchern fürs Weihnachtsgeschäft. Die Kunden kommen in Scharen – und oft genug in Panik. Sie stellen obskure Fragen, spielen lustiges Titelraten mit den Buchhändlerinnen, sind gehetzt, verzweifelt und manchmal auch einfach nur dankbar.

 Viele Stammkunden sind mittlerweile zu guten Freunden geworden und bringen dringend benötigte Nahrung, Hilfe in jeder Form sowie gute Laune vorbei. Und so hat die schrecklichste Zeit des Jahres auch schöne Momente. Der allerschönste Tag ist für Petra Hartlieb aber immer noch der eine: der vierundzwanzigste Dezember – denn da gehen spätestens um 13 Uhr die Lichter in der Buchhandlung aus, und alles ist endlich vorbei. Für ein Jahr.

Lieblingsstadt Istanbul

Schon am Dienstag Früh bin ich literarisch wieder nach Istanbul gereist, allerdings in die später 90er Jahre. Bisher gefällt mir das Buch  sehr gut, morgen werde ich es allerdings schon wieder ausgelesen haben.

Penny Küfer ermittelt wieder

Am Wochenende habe ich den dritten Band mit der österreichischen Detektivin Penny Küfer ausgelesen, die Bücher gefallen mir immer besser. Nächstes Jahr soll wieder ein Teil erscheinen, bisher kann man allerdings nur die digitale Version vorbestellen, und ich möchte ja schon wieder ein richtiges Buch haben.

Neues Fantasybuch

Am Montag habe ich mit einem neuen Fantasybuch begonnen, dem zweiten Roman von Erin Morgenstern. Es hat mir ganz gut gefallen, und ich habe die knapp 500 Seiten auch sehr gerne gelesen. Von einem anderen Schriftsteller hätte es mir wahrscheinlich aber besser gefallen - von Erin Morgenstern habe ich mir einfach mehr erwartet. "Der Nachtzirkus" war ein so wundervolles Buch, da konnte das "sternenlose Meer" bei weitem nicht mit. Schade, denn ich habe auf diesen Roman sehr lange gewartet.

Frauenprojekt im November: Vom Flüchtlingskind zur Staatssektretärin

Eigentlich schon am Sonntag auf dem Weg zur MS Prinzessin Sisi habe ich mit der Biographie einer beeindruckenden Frau begonnen. Ich wusste gar nicht, das Madeleine Albright ursprünglich aus der Tschechei kommt, und einer jüdischen Familie entspringt. Das Buch ist sehr interessant, weil es auch viel über die tschechische Geschichte und den zweiten Weltkrieg erzählt. Da ich aber irgendwie dauernd beim Lesen gestört werde, komme ich nicht so recht weiter. Dieses Monat komme ich voraussichtlich nur auf sechs Bücher.

Jazz-Biographie

Schon am Dienstag habe ich endlich wieder einmal eine Jazz-Biographie begonnen, die ich heute in der Straßenbahn beendet habe. Sie hat mir gut gefallen, Billy Eckstine ist heute kein sehr bekannter Sänger mehr, aber zu seiner Zeit war er ein Teenieschwarm. Ich selbst habe auch nur eine CD von ihm, Duette mit Sarah Vaughn.

The Music & Life of Billy Eckstine

Description: In 1950, Billy Eckstine was the most popular singer in America. Movie-star handsome with an elegant pencil-thin mustache and a wide vibrato, Eckstine possessed one of the most magnificent voices in popular music history. Born in Pittsburgh, Eckstine won a talent contest by imitating Cab Calloway and started leading jazz orchestras under the name Baron Billy. Literarische Bildung

Heute habe ich mit einem Buch begonnen, das ich wohl noch länger lesen werde - es hat immerhin über 500 Seiten und ist eines meiner Lieblingsgenres: Ein Buch über Bücher! Ich mag auch sehr gerne die Bücher von Michael Dirda, ich freue mich daher schon aufs Weiterlesen am morgigen Feiertag.

Gene Kelly

Gestern habe ich auf der Fahrt zu meinen Eltern habe ich ein dünnes, broschiertes Büchlein ausgelesen - was bei 34 Seiten keine große Kunst ist. Das Buch hat nur einen sehr groben Überblick über die Karriere von Gene Kelly gegeben, die Beschreibung bei Amazon ist ja fast länger als das ganze Buch.

Auf unserer - leider schon wieder zu Ende gegangenen Donaukreuzfahrt habe ich drei dünne Bücher gelesen. Zwei davon haben mir gut gefallen, das letzte war leider ein wenig langweilig.

Schon am Mittwoch habe ich den Roman über Lady Macbeth ausgelesen, er war allerdings schon um gute 100 Seiten zu lange. Mal hat der Clan eine Auseinandersetzung gewonnen, mal der andere - und das war dann doch sehr ermüdend. Trotzdem hat mir das Buch gut gefallen.

Gestern und heute in der U-Bahn habe ich dann ein Buch ausgelesen, das mir auch sehr gut gefallen hat. Eigentlich wollte ich es an Halloween und Allerheiligen lesen, aber es hatte genau die richtige Länge für die letzten zwei Tage vor dem Urlaub. Das Buch behandelt Wien und den Tod - und die Liebe zur schönen Leich'. Trotz den schaurig-traurigen Themas war es auch amüsant zu lesen.

Aber Hilde Schmölzer hat noch viele andere wunderbare Geschichten über den Wiener und seinen Tod zu erzählen: So etwa wurden im 19. Jahrhundert die Grüfte des Stephansdoms für Interessierte geöffnet und Scharen von Schaulustigen strömten die Katakomben. Kurze Zeit dachten die Wiener gar über eine dampfbetriebene Leichenbeförderung nach. Die Särge mussten nämlich bei Schlechtwetter in Wirtshäusern zwischengelagert werden, weil die Fuhrwerke im Schneetreiben stecken blieben. Da mag es auch nicht verwundern, dass die Begräbnisse von Königen und Fürsten freudig erwartet wurden. Zu diesen Anlässen bot sich den Zuschauern immer eine besonders schöne Leich …

 

Ein Fest für Freunde des schwarzen Humors, Wien-Fans und alle, die der Wiener Seele auf den Grund blicken wollen.

Nach den Königinnen aus der Fantasy-Welt habe ich nun für mein Frauenprojekt eine Shakespeare-Königin zum Thema gewählt. Ich habe bisher erst ca. 30 Seiten gelesen und es klingt recht spannend - und blutrünstig. Mal sehen, wie es weitergeht mit der ersten Schlacht.

Fantasy Welt

Schon seit letztem Donnerstag habe ich ein weiteres Fantasy-Buch gelesen, heute bin ich damit fertig geworden. Es hat mir sehr gut gefallen, aber irgendwie bin ich wochentags Zuhause nicht dazugekommen, weiter zu lesen. Bei dem Lesetempo werde ich dieses Montag wohl keine acht Bücher schaffen, andererseits habe ich ja auch fast zwei Wochen Urlaub.

Schneewittchen

Heute habe ich kurz ein schmales Büchlein eingeschoben, damit ich wieder auf eine gerade Zahl bei meiner Monats-Lesestatistik komme. Neil Gaiman hat gemeinsam mit der Künstlerin Colleen Doran ein neues Schneewittchen geschrieben, erzählt von der "bösen" Stiefmutter. Es war meine erste Graphic Novel und hat mir extrem gut gefallen, vor allem die Zeichnungen. Da muss ich schauen, ob ich ein paar im Internet finde, um damit mein Tagebuch zu illustrieren.

Wie Gefühle entstehen

Schon am Donnerstag habe ich das neuerzählte Rumpelstilzchen-Märchen ausgelesen, aber es hat mich leider so gar nicht begeistert und ich war froh, als ich damit fertig war.

Rumpelstilzchen Reloaded

Nach Budapest reise ich literarisch nun in ein Fantasy-Russland und ins Reich des Winters. Ich habe jetzt am Nachmittag etwas mehr als 100 Seiten gelesen, bin aber noch nicht recht in die Geschichte reingekommen. Irgendwie sind mir zu viele Perspektivenwechsel - ich mag es gerne, wenn die Geschichte von einer Person erzählt wird. Aber es ist nicht schlecht geschrieben und ich mag ja Märchen, die modernisiert wurden.

Da unsere Donau-Reise ja mittlerweile mit Riesenschritten naht, habe ich mir für das Wochenende eine Bücherreise nach Budapest ausgewählt - denn auch wir werden ja eine Stadtrundfahrt in Budapest unternehmen. Das Buch beschreibt eher die nicht so populären Sehenswürdigkeiten, ist interessant und leicht zu lesen.

Schon am Samstag Nachmittag habe ich meinen Liebesroman ausgelesen, und er hat mir ausnehmend gut gefallen. Er war witzig und auch sehr bezaubernd geschrieben, von der Autorin werde ich bestimmt noch mehr lesen.

 

Gestern habe ich dann mit einem amüsanten Buch begonnen, wie berühmte Frauen die Probleme unserer Zeit lösen würden. Auch dieses Buch gefällt mir sehr gut, und ich freue mich schon auf das Weiterlesen. Heute musste ich mich mit meinem neuen Handy beschäftigen.

Die Bibliothek der Liebe

heißt meine neue Lektüre, die ich schon fast ausgelesen habe. Nach Shaun Bythell's Bekenntnissen aus seinem Leben als Buchhändler habe ich mir nun einen Liebesroman ausgesucht, in dem es um eine Autorin für Liebesromane geht, ihr überaus attraktiver Enkelsohn spielt ebenso eine Rolle wie die neue Privatsekretärin, die letztendlich dann ihren ersten eigenen Roman schreibt.

Die Geschichte ist ebenso zügig geschrieben, wie die Romane um die Privatdetektivin Penny Küfer und ich bin schon fast fertig. Von Alex Wagner werde ich mir definitiv noch mehrere Bücher zulegen.

Das Leben der Buchhändler

Am Sonntag habe ich die Biografie der chinesischen Schriftstellerin Hong Ying ausgelesen, das Buch war aber irgendwie sehr deprimierend.

Deshalb habe ich mich danach für eines der neuen Bücher entschieden, ich habe mir Shaun Bythell's "Beichte" ausgesucht. Der erste Band hat mir extrem gut gefallen und auch der zweite gefällt mir bisher sehr gut.

Die neuen Bücher

In den letzten Wochen sind wieder einige neue Bücher dazu gekommen - allerdings nicht sehr viele und ich werde sie jetzt im September noch lesen. Meine Ausbeute war ein Buch zum Thema Bücher, ein humorvolles und feministisches Buch, eine Graphic Novel und ein Liebesroman, der ebenfalls in einer Buchhandlung spielt.

Außerdem habe ich mir vorige Wochen aus dem offenen Bücherschrank am Brunnenmarkt drei Bücher mitgenommen - um verschiedene Seiten oder Fotos für mein Tagebuch im nächsten Jahr zu verwenden. Eines davon, einen Fotoratgeber von 1954, finde ich aber doch zu schade, um die Seiten rauszureißen, deshalb habe ich es in meine Bücherwand zu den anderen Fotobüchern gestellt. Und natürlich ist das Buch auch eine Art Geschichte - denn die Fotographie hat sich total verändert, daher ist der "Fotohelfer" doppelt interessant.

Frauenprojekt im September: Kindheit in China

Gestern habe ich das Buch über die Frauen im Trojanischen Krieg ausgelesen und es hat mir sehr gut gefallen. Ich habe selbst Troja besucht, und ich habe Lust bekommen, wieder einmal ein paar der griechischen Heldensagen zu lesen.

 

Heute habe ich dann mit der Biographie einer chinesischen Autorin begonnen. Die Romane, die ich bisher von ihr gelesen habe, haben mir auch schnell verschlungen.

 

Mein Frauenbuch:

A Memoir

Description: The autobiography of a young girl growing up in Mao's China. Hong Ying grew up in a slum on the banks of the Yangtze, an area permanently veiled in fog and steeped in superstition. Life was precarious and Hong Ying, the youngest of the six children, grew up afraid that she would be condemned to a life of carrying sand and emptying chamber pots. Gradually, Hong Ying began to try and solve some of the mysteries which had seemed to surround her early life: a stalker who had followed her since she was a child, a VD record in her father's file, and a persistent feeling that there was something strange about her birth. Among her discoveries, Hong Ying learnt that her mother was once married to a Triadman who had died in a labour camp as a counter-revolutionary, while her father, now a blind sailor, had several times barely escaped with his life during the civil war. Under the corrupt rule, her mother had taken extreme measures to keep the children alive while several of her relatives starved to death during the Great Famine. Moreover, Hong Ying's stalker turned out to have an astoundingly close connection with her.

 

After the tragic deaths of both her first lover and her first child, Hong Ying decided she had to take control of her own life: she left home and worked hard to become a published poet and a novelist. After the events in Tian'anmen Square, she left China to live in London.

Die trojanischen Kriege

Schon am Freitag habe ich mit einem neuen Buch begonnen, es geht um die Frauen in den trojanischen Kriegen und deren Stimme. In der Ilias und der Odyssee geht es um die Kriege und die Männer im Krieg um Troja. In diesem Buch geht es nun um die Frauen, und bisher gefällt es mir sehr gut. Ich werde heute Nachmittag noch weiterlesen.

Schuldscheine und die Liebe

Am Sonntag habe ich den Krimi beendet, ich habe allerdings die letzte Hälfte nur quergelesen. Obwohl mir normalerweise blutrünstige Krimis oder Vampirgeschichten nichts ausmachen, konnte ich mit dem Kannibalismus nicht warmwerden, das Buch hat mir ein unwohles Gefühl gegeben. Vielleicht liegt es auch daran, das nicht erklärt wurde, wie der Protagonist zum Menschenfresser wurde, jedenfalls nicht im ersten Teil des Buches. Den zweiten Band werde ich mir definitiv nicht kaufen.

 

Nach dem gruseligen Krimi habe ich daher mit einem ganz netten und beschaulichen Liebesroman begonnen, nichts so Nervenaufreibendes. Ich habe jetzt noch ca. 80 Seiten, die werde ich morgen auslesen.
