Noch ein Unterwegs-Buch

Da ich mit meiner dicken Biographie immer noch nicht fertig bin, habe ich mich als Unterwegs-Buch für ein Vampir-Kinderbuch entschieden, das mir eigentlich sehr gut gefällt, obwohl ich über die empfohlene Altersgruppe (ab 8 Jahre) schon lange hinaus bin. Morgen beim Heimfahren wird es dann auch ausgelesen sein.

Auf Vampirjagd

Kurzbeschreibung: Rätselhafte Dinge gehen im Spukhaus vor sich: Aramintas Käse-Zwiebel-Chips lösen sich auf rätselhafte Weise in Luft auf und Katze Pusskins ist verschwunden. Es muss etwas Schreckliches in den tiefen, dunklen Geheimgängen vorgehen. Alles deutet auf einen Werwolf hin. Außerdem kommt Onkel Dracs nerviger Neffe Max zu Besuch. Ein boshafter kleiner Vampir, findet Araminta, doch nur sie scheint das zu merken. Unerträglich, dass auch Aramintas beste Freundin Wanda Max‘ Charme erliegt. Araminta bleibt nichts anderes übrig, als Max auf frischer Tat zu ertappen und dabei auch den Werwolf zu fassen. Gar nicht so leicht ohne beste Freundin!

Zwischendurch-Buch

Da meine Shirley Jackson-Biographie ja zu schwer für die U-Bahn ist, habe ich mich heute Früh für ein dünnes Zwischendurch-Buch entschieden. Mit 140 Seiten voller Fotos war ich allerdings auf der Heimfahrt schon wieder fertig - also muss morgen Früh ein neues U-Bahn-Buch her.

 

Entschieden habe ich mich heute für Bilder von Jackie Kennedy - vielleicht beeinflusst von den diversen Dokumentation, die jetzt zum 100. Geburtstag von John F. Kennedy im Fernsehen gelaufen sind. Das Buch hat mir sehr gut gefallen, auch wenn es ganz normale Bilder waren.

Schon am Montag habe ich mit einem neuen Buch begonnen - ich wollte endlich mal wieder eine Biographie lesen. Allerdings hat das Buch knapp über 600 Seiten, es ist also nicht wirklich handtaschentauglich. Ich fürchte, am Montag muss ich mir für die U-Bahn ein Zweitbuch suchen müssen.

 

Shirley Jackson hat ja eher Gruselromane geschrieben, zwei davon habe ich auch bereits gelesen. Die Biographie ist allerdings ein bisschen langweilig, ihr Leben (und das ihres Mannes) wird ein wenig zu ausführlich beschrieben. Und da sind dann 600 Seiten eben gute 200 Seiten Zuviel.

Liebe und Beziehungen

Gestern in der U-Bahn habe ich die Anthologie mit den modernen Interpretationen zu Jane Eyre ausgelesen. Bei dem meisten Geschichten hat sich mit der Zusammenhang nicht aufgetan, es waren Erzählungen über Liebe und verschiedene Formen von Beziehungen, und sie haben mir zum Großteil auch gefallen. Und von der ein oder anderen Schriftstellerin möchte ich gerne noch etwas lesen, mal sehen.

 

Am Abend habe ich dann mit einem kitschigen Liebesroman begonnen, der allerdings vor mehr als 30 Jahren zum ersten Mal veröffentlich wurde - und das merkt man irgendwie. Aber schnell zu lesen und ganz gut geschrieben. Allerdings hat mir ihre Dracula-Liebesgeschichte besser gefallen.

Geschichten zu Jane Eyre

Gestern Abend habe ich die Tatort Hauptstadt-Anthologie ausgelesen. Da ich alle Geschichten - bis auf die aus dem Stadtpark - schon gelesen habe, war das Buch eine Enttäuschung. So sehr ich Edith Kneifl als Schriftstellerin und als Herausgeberin mag, das Buch war einfach eine Mogelpackung und für bereits veröffentlichte Geschichten zu teuer. Da wurde der Käufer/Leser wirklich abgezockt.

 

Morgen in der U-Bahn werde ich dann mit einer Anthologie zu Ehren von Jane Eyre beginnen und freue mich schon darauf. Der Roman von Charlotte Bronte ist ja einer meiner Lieblingsromane und ich bin gespannt, welche Ideen Autoren von heute zu Jane Eyre haben.

Tatort Hauptstadt - Eine Enttäuschung

Gestern am Abend habe ich das Buch über Titanic ausgelesen, ein sehr berührendes Buch mit Augenzeugenberichten von Überlebenden.

 

Voller Freude habe ich daher zu der neuen "Tatort"-Anthologie von Edith Kneifl gegriffen und musste feststellen, es mit einer Mogelpackung zu tun zu haben. In diesem Erzählband sind alle Geschichten von Edith Kneifl, und bis auf eine einzige Story wurden alle schon in den bereits erschienenen "Tatort"-Anthologien veröffentlicht. Die einzig neue Geschichte spielt im Stadtpark, und vermutlich wird so dann ein neuer Teil der Tatort-Serie heißen.

 

Ich hatte das Buch ja schon lange vorbestellt, da gab es leider noch keinen Klappentext. Bei der Beschreibung, die jetzt bei Amazon steht, hätte ich es wahrscheinlich aber geahnt, das hier Restelverwertung betrieben wird. Schade, denn ich mag ja Edith Kneifl sehr. Aber da ich die Geschichten nun alle schon kenne, hätte ich mir das Geld sparen können.

Am Freitag sind endlich die neuen Bücher von Edith Kneifl eingetroffen. Eine Anthologie und ein neuer Roman um den Privatdetektiv Gustav von Karoly. Eines der beiden - wahrscheinlich die Anthologie - wird dann gleich mein nächstes Leseerlebnis.

Städteprojekt im Mai: New York

Im Mai führt es mich wieder auf den amerikanischen Kontinent, nach New York - und auf diese literarische Reise freue ich mich ganz besonders, denn New York würde ich auch gerne in der Realität besuchen. Außerdem ist das seit Mitte Februar mein erstes deutschsprachiges Buch, meistens lese ich jetzt auf Englisch.

gibt es nur ein dünnes Büchlein mit Kurzgeschichten einer meiner Lieblingsschriftstellerinnen Joyce Carol Oates. Der April war mit nur 6 Büchern lesetechnisch sowieso nicht der Beste, aber es waren fast alles ganz besondere Bücher.

Shakespeare & Company

ist der Name einer der berühmtesten Buchhandlungen der Welt. Sylvia Beach hat diese Buchhandlung bereits 1919 gegründet, musste die Buchhandlung allerdings aufgrund der deutschen Besatzung während des zweiten Weltkriegs 1941 schließen. Erst lange nach dem Krieg hat George Whitman, wieder ein Amerikaner eine Buchhandlung in Paris eröffnet, und zwar 1951. Die Buchhandlung hieß damals "The Mistral Bookshop" und auch Sylvia Beach war bis zu ihrem Tod 1962 gerne Gast hier. Sie hat George Whitman auch den Namen "Shakespeare & Company überlassen, die Buchhandlung wurde aber erst im April 1964 unbenannt: dem 400. Geburtstag von William Shakespeare.

 

Shakespeare and Company ist immer noch als unabhängige Buchhandlung geöffnet.

 

Leider werde ich das Buch schon bald wieder ausgelesen haben, was auch an der unnatürlich großen Schrift liegt.

Schon vorige Woche habe ich zwei Bücher von Amazon bekommen - und wie immer in zwei Paketen. Außerdem habe ich mir ein Valletta-Buch direkt aus Malta bestellt. Das Buch war zwar nicht ganz billig, und auch die Versandkosten waren nicht gerade günstig. Aber es ist ein viel schöneres Buch als das dieser komischen deutschen Fotografen und es war auch ganz toll verpackt. Und manchmal muss man sich eben selbst auch etwas leisten ;-)

Schon am Mittwoch habe ich die erotischen Geschichten ausgelesen, und mich bei manchen gefragt, was daran erotisch sein soll. Für Zwischendurch war es aber ganz nett zum Lesen.

 

Begonnen habe ich dann mit dem neuen Buch von Charlie Lovett, und es gefällt mir wieder ausnehmend gut. Ich liebe einfach Geschichten in denen es um Literatur geht, um die Liebe zu Büchern und zum Lesen, um ein Geheimnis und ein bisschen auch um Liebe.

Die neuen Bücher der Woche

Wie schon gewohnt, liefert Amazon halt was gerade einem Kommissionierer in die Hände fällt. Denn anders kann es ja gar nicht sein, teilweise wird wirklich jedes Buch einzeln versendet. Einerseits witzig, aber andererseits halt auch völlig unnötig, was Verpackung und Versand betrifft. Aber gut, Amazon ist eben so...

 

Geliefert wurden zwei Bücher für mein Städteprojekt: Brisbane und Valletta. Von dem Buch über Valletta bin ich aber total enttäuscht, es sollte ein Bildband mit abendlichen Aufnahmen der wunderschönen Stadt sein. In dem Buch sind aber - ohne Kommentar oder Einführung - nur 119 Fotos drinnen, alle völlig uninspiriert, die meisten komplett unscharf. Solche Fotos würde ich nie für meinen Blog verwenden, geschweige denn ein Buch damit machen. Aber es zählt wohl unter Kunst und das war rausgeschmissenes Geld. Naja, deutsche Fotografen und ein deutsches Kunstprojekt - das hätte mich abhalten sollen. Ich hätte mir doch lieber einen Roman für Valletta zulegen sollen, und das werde ich auch nachholen. Valletta möchte ich in meinem Städteprojekt nicht mit hässlichen Bildern präsentieren.

 

Gekommen ist außerdem ein Buch mit Augenzeugenberichten der Titanic, ein Liebesroman, eine Fantasy-Geschichte um ein verwunschenes Haus und - weil es ja mit Johnny Depp gerade verfilmt wird: Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express. Das habe ich als Jugendliche auf Deutsch gelesen und freue mich schon auf das englische Original.

Ein bisschen Erotik

nach der Zeitreise nach Venedig.

 

Heute habe ich den venezianischen Vampirroman ausgelesen. Begeistert war ich nicht, aber um die "The Assasins"-Serie komplett zu haben, habe ich mir auch den dritten Band bestellt. An sich wäre die Geschichte gar nicht mal so schlecht gewesen, aber die Anleihen bei Shakespeare haben mich dann doch gestört. Wenn sie wie in der Shakespeare-Retold-Serie einfach neu interpretiert werden, finde ich das spannend und freue mich drauf. Wenn wir hier einfach schamlos abgeschrieben wird - wie bei der Geschichte von Lady Desdaio und Atilo, dann verstimmt mich das. Im ersten Band sind mir die Shakespeare-Bezüge gar nicht so sehr aufgefallen, aber in diesem Teil war es einfach nur plump abgeschrieben - und vom Autor so gewollt, wie ich in einem Interview gelesen habe.

 

Es wurden halt nur die Namen verändert und ganz leicht die Geschichte mit dem Taschentuch. Aus Desdemona Brabantio wurde Desdaio Bribanco, aus Othello wurde Atilo il Mauros und aus Iago wurde Iacopo. Einzig Rodrigo blieb Rodrigo. Grimwood hat Shakespeare halt einfach ausgeschlachtet und ich hab mich beim Lesen furchtbar darüber geärgert.

 

Heute Abend habe ich dann mit einer Anthologie erotischer Geschichten begonnen, und ich habe die ersten 3 Geschichten bereits gelesen.

Immer noch in Venedig

Nach dem Kulturführer über Venedig bleibe ich lesetechnisch gleich in dieser Stadt, allerdings im Jahre 1408 - mit dem zweiten Teil der Vampirtrilogie von John Courtenay Grimwood. Irgendwann muss ich mir dazu dann auch den dritten und letzten Teil besorgen.

 

Die Geschichte gefällt mir ganz gut, allerdings sind mir die ganzen Hofintrigen manchmal doch etwas Zuviel. Ich möchte halt aber schon auch wissen, wie es mir Tycho und Lady Giulietta weitergeht.

Städteprojekt im April: Venedig

Schon am Sonntag Vormittag habe ich die Geschichte des Klaviers ausgelesen und es war ein echt tolles Buch. Klassische und Jazz-Musik haben sich die Waage gehalten, ohne irgendwie zu werden. Alle große Pianisten wurden erwähnt und es war ein echt tolles Buch, das ich sehr genossen habe.

 

Gestern habe ich dann mit dem Vorwort für mein neuen Städte-Projekt-Buch begonnen, heute habe ich dann in der U-Bahn und auch Abends weitergelesen. Venedig ist eine tolle Stadt (auch wenn ich da mit zwei Jahren und zum letzten mal mit 14 war), und das Buch gefällt mir bisher sehr gut. Ich habe aber auch schon andere, tolle Bücher über Venedig gelesen...

Gerade eben hat die Post ein Amazon-Packerl gebracht, und ich hatte vorige Woche zwei Bücher erhalten. Wie immer liefert Amazon in Raten aus, und weitere 2 Bücher aus verschiedenen Bestellungen sind auch noch ausständig - und der Liefertermin für andere, ältere Bestellungen wird immer wieder verschoben. Deshalb ist es eben gut, einen großen Büchervorrat zum Lesen zu haben.

 

Meine Neuerwerbungen sind ein Buch über Shakespeare & Co, der berühmten Pariser Buchhandlung (das werde ich sicher sehr bald lesen), eine moderne Neuerzählung von Rotkäppchen (da habe ich allerdings auch noch eine andere Version auf meinem Stapel ungelesener Bücher), einen historischen Roman und ein Buch mit Weihnachtsgeschichten für den Advent.

Man müsste Klavier spielen können...

In meinem neuen Buch geht es um die Geschichte des Klaviers. Von der Entstehung des Musikinstruments, über klassische Musiker und ihre Stile, bis zu Jazz-Pianisten. Ich habe erst 1 1/2 Kapitel gelesen, bin aber bereits total begeistert. Im ersten Kapitel ging es um klassische und Jazz-Pianisten und ich habe erst da erfahren, das Oscar Peterson einen extra für ihn gefertigten Bösendorfer-Flügel hatte. Heute beherrscht ja leider Steinway die Welt, aber früher hatte Bösendorfer einen sehr guten Ruf.

 

Das zweite Kapitel beginnt so etwa in Jahre 1700 und erzählt über die ersten Pianos und ähnliche Tasteninstrumenten. Über deren Funktionsweise, Entwicklung - und die Medici spielen auch eine Rolle. Ich freue mich schon, wenn ich Morgen in der U-Bahn weiterlesen kann.

Neues Buch

Heute beim Heimfahren habe ich den Shylock ausgelesen. Er hat mir dann schon besser als zu Beginn gefallen, und ich fand das Ende dann auch überraschend - aber "Vinegar Girl" und "The Gap of Time" haben mir wesentlich besser gefallen. Mal sehen, was in der Shakespeare Retold-Serie noch veröffentlicht wird.

 

Für heute Abend habe ich mir dann nur ein sehr dünnes Büchlein ausgesucht, das ich morgen in der U-Bahn beenden werde. Es geht um Trauer und wenn es auch aus verschiedenen Stimmen und in einer ungewöhnlichen Sprache erzählt wird, gefällt es mir sehr gut. In dieser Geschichte ist die Krähe das Sinnbild für die Trauer und ich mag das Büchlein sehr. Vielleicht, weil ich Krähen und Raben mag, vielleicht weil ich selbst zwei Todesfälle in letzter Zeit hatte. Für mich behandelt es wichtige Aspekte der Trauer.

Shakespeare im März

Für heute musste ich mir ja ein neues Buch aussuchen, und ich habe mich für eine weitere Shakespeare-Retold-Geschichte entschieden. Bisher habe ich etwas über 50 Seiten gelesen, und ich bin in diese Story noch nicht so richtig reingekommen. Ich wünsche mir, das ich das Buch noch genießen kann, denn der "Kaufmann von Venedig" hat mir ja auch gut gefallen.

Hexenjagd

Weil ich das schöne Penguin-Book nicht in die Firma mitnehmen wollte, habe ich mir für unterwegs ein dünnes Buch ausgewählt. Eigentlich von einer meiner Lieblingsautorinnen, hat mir dieses Buch so gar nicht gefallen, und ich habe es dann nur noch überflogen. Irgendwie habe ich mir bei diesem Buch was Anderes vorgestellt, ich hatte zuerst eine Beschreibung, das die Handlung in der Gegenwart und zu der Zeit der englischen Hexenverbrennungen spielt. Aber es war nur ein historischer Roman, und im Moment kann ich mit der Jagd auf Hexen, mit Folterungen, Vergewaltigungen und dem Tod am Scheiterhaufen nichts anfangen.

Penguin Bucheinbände

In meinem neuen Buch dreht sich alles um die Cover der Bücher. Ich selbst achte ja auch sehr auf die Bucheinbände - ich habe mir schon einige Bände gekauft, nur weil mir das Cover so gut gefallen hat. Man soll ein Buch zwar nicht nach dem Einband beurteilen, aber wenn ich die Auswahl habe, nehme ich mir das Buch mit der Umschlaggestaltung, die mir besser gefällt. Englischsprachige Bücher haben dazu meist sowieso immer die schöneren Cover, aus diesem samtigen Papier, das sich einfach gut anfühlt.

 

Dazu kommt, das der Penguin-Verlag sowieso viele für mich interessante Bücher verlegt und einige der in meinem neuen Buch vorgestellten, besitze ich auch.

Jedes Buch hübsch einzeln verpackt - und ein bisschen Modeschmuck ebenfalls einzeln versendet: so sorgt Amazon dafür, das bei der Österreichischen Post weiterhin Vollbeschäftigung besteht. Manchmal wundere ich mich über Amazon, aber meistens kann ich nur noch drüber lachen.

 

In meinen Packerln waren Bücher für mein Städte- und mein Shakespeare-Projekt, ein im Oktober bestellter Roman über Buchliebhaber, eine Kurzgeschichtensammlung von Joyce Carol Oates und ein Buch über Trauer. Das beste daran ist: es sind alles dünne Bücher!

Longlisted für den The Man Booker International

Heute habe ich die letzten Seiten des Leonard Cohen-Buches ausgelesen. Es hat mir generell gut gefallen und ich denke schon, das Leonard Cohen ein sehr interessanter Gesprächspartner war. Allerdings hat sich naturgemäß vieles in den Interviews wiederholt, bzw. haben die Journalisten immer wieder dieselben Fragen gestellt. 200 Seiten weniger hätten diesem Buch keineswegs geschadet.

 

Heute die Longlist für den Man Booker International Prize bekanntgegeben - und mein Lieblingsautor Ismail Kadare steht auf dieser Liste. Also habe ich mir das Buch geschnappt und werde gleich heute Abend damit beginnen.

Interviews mit Leonard Cohen

Gestern auf der Heimfahrt habe ich das Buch über New Orleans ausgelesen. Es war ein tolles und informatives Buch, das die Blütezeit von New Orleans behandelt hat - als Bars uns Bordelle erlaubt waren und zum alltäglichen Leben gehört haben. An Hand einiger Personen wurde über diese Zeit erzählt, so auch die Anfänge der Jazzmusiker Buddy Bolden, Sidney Bechet und Louis Armstrong, dem Politiker Thomas Anderson und der Bordell-Madam Josie Lobrano (Mary Deubler/Brady).

 

Abends habe ich mir dann ein neues Buch ausgesucht, und mich für einen 600 Seiten-Schmöker entschieden. Das es aber hauptsächlich aus Interviews besteht, werde ich es bald ausgelesen haben.
