Neu eingetroffene Bücher

Es ist mal wieder an der Zeit, meine neuen Bücher vorzustellen. Eines ist mir bei Thalia in den Einkaufskorb gehüpft, eines habe ich aus dem Bücherständer beim Empfang meiner Firma gerettet, den Rest hat Amazon eintröpfeln lassen. Dabei ist viel Fantasy, ein Bildband mit Fotografien von Orhan Pamuk's Balkon, ein Erfahrungsbericht einer orthodox-jüdischen Frau und ein Buch über die Trapp-Familie. Das passt zu meinem Musikprojekt im Dezember, da "The Sound of Music" der amerikanische Weihnachtsfilm schlechthin ist. Von der EVVA habe ich den Liebesroman für nächsten Dezember mitgebracht.

Eine Weihnachtsbiographie

Gestern Abend habe ich die letzten Seiten von Hercule Poirot ausgelesen. Diese Geschichte kannte ich noch gar nicht, aber wie immer hat sie mir sehr gut gefallen. Nächstes Jahr werde ich mir definitiv noch ein paar Romane mit dem belgischen Meisterdetektiv zulegen.

 

In der U-Bahn habe ich dann heute mit einer Biographie über Weihnachten begonnen. Das erste Kapitel beleuchtet die religiöse Geschichte und zieht sich etwas dahin. Ich hoffe, das Buch wird noch etwas spannender... aber da es nicht so viele Seiten hat, sollte ich bald fertig sein.

Ein Weihnachts-Mord

Nach dem eher langatmigen und vorhersehbaren Liebesroman habe ich noch gestern Abend mit einem Weihnachtskrimi begonnen. Ausgewählt habe ich mir Agatha Christie mit einer neuen Ermittlung von Hercule Poirot, die mich wieder begeistert. Im nächsten Jahr muss ich mir wieder ein paar ihrer Kriminalromane mit dem belgischen Meisterdetektiv besorgen. Ich habe genau 100 Seiten bisher gelesen und bin total in der Geschichte um eine englische Familie, in der jeder ein Motiv hat, den Patriarchen der Familie umzubringen.

Weihnachts-Liebelei

Am Donnerstag habe ich in der U-Bahn mein Weihnachtskinderbuch ausgelesen, und wie die beiden Jahre davor, war ich wieder total hingerissen. Die Geschichte um den Weihnachtsmann und seine Wichtel-Welt hat mich total bezaubert und ich freue mich auf den nächsten Teil, der für Weihnachten 2019 bereits bereit liegt. Hoffentlich schreibt Matt Haig noch einige Bücher in dieser Serie.

 

Begonnen habe ich dann mit meinem üblichen Weihnachts-Liebesroman, der mich dieses Jahr aber nicht ganz so begeistert. Die Geschichte ist einfach zu vorhersehbar und gibt nicht genügend her für fast 400 Seiten. Ich werde aber trotzdem dieses Wochenende das Buch auslesen.

 

Weihnachtsbuch Nummer 2:

Erstes Weihnachtsbuch

Heute habe ich in der U-Bahn mit meinem ersten Weihnachtsbuch 2018 begonnen und letztendlich habe ich mich für die entzückende Kinderbuchserie von Matt Haig entschieden. Der nächste Teil der Serie liegt bereits für die Adventszeit 2019 bereit, und ich hoffe, es kommen noch ein paar weitere Bücher dazu. Die besonderen Zeichnungen in diesem Buch stammen wie immer von Chris Mould.

Feminismus

Heute habe ich das Buch über Geschichte und Bücher ausgelesen, es hat mir schon gefallen, war aber sehr langatmig. Wirklich begeistert hat mich das Buch nicht.

 

Morgen lese ich dann ein dünnes Büchlein (nur 72 Seiten) der englischen Autorin Jeanette Winterson, in dem es um Feminismus geht und um einen Aufruf zu Mut und Gleitberechtigung. Ich bin schon gespannt, wie es mir gefallen wird.

 

Und dann kommt endlich der erste Dezember und ich kann mit meinen Weihnachtsbüchern beginnen - allerdings weiß ich noch gar nicht, mit welchem ich beginnen soll.

Bücher und Geschichte

Mit dem Tony Bennett-Bildband bin ich schon am Sonntag fertig geworden - für einen Bildband gab es ganz schön viel zu lesen. Das Buch hat im Großen und Ganzen Tony Bennetts Geschichte und Erfolge beschrieben, und war toll zum Lesen, mit vielen schönen Fotos, die ich noch nicht kannte.

Gestern in der U-Bahn habe ich dann mit einem Buch über Bücher begonnen, das mir vom Thema her zusagt, aber das von einem Deutsch-Amerikaner geschrieben wurde. Und wie man weiß, sind deutsche Schreiberlinge und ich kein perfektes Gespann. Aber es ist interessant, und am Donnerstag werde ich es auslesen.

Vor den vielen Weihnachtsbüchern, die dann auf mich warten, werde ich als letztes Buch im November ein dünnes Büchlein wählen, wahrscheinlich Jeanette Winterson. Dann kann ich mich gleich im Dezember auf mein erstes Weihnachtsbuch freuen.

Musikprojekt im November: Tony Bennett

Im November werde ich für mein Musikprojekt einen Bildband über einen meiner Lieblingssänger lesen: über den großen Tony Bennett, der mit 92 Jahren immer noch singt, tourt, malt und viele Pläne macht. Das es eben ein Bildband - und damit nicht handtaschentauglich - ist, passt es perfekt ins Wochenende. Morgen ins Stadion-Center kann ich Tony dann allerdings auch nicht mitnehmen. Ich freue mich aber schon total auf dieses Buch.

Das liebe Bewusstsein

Am Samstag schon habe ich die Donau-Anthologie ausgelesen, die mir sehr gefallen hat und die sich schnell weggelesen hat. Einige der Geschichten und der alten Reiseberichte kannte ich schon, aber das hat der Lesefreude keinen Abbruch getan. Ein tolles Buch und total passend zu unserer Donaufahrt.

 

Am Montag habe ich dann mit dem letzten Buch von Oliver Sacks begonnen, das er kurz vor seinem Tod offenbar noch fertiggestellt hat. Es geht um das Bewusstsein, um Erinnerungen, um Gefühle. Wie jedes Buch von Oliver Sacks begeistert mich auch dieses, mir fehlt aber ein wenig die Konzentration im Moment. Ich werde das Buch zu einer ruhigeren Zeit bestimmt noch einmal lesen.

The River of Coinsciousness

Description: In his previous books, Oliver Sacks had addressed questions of the brain and mind through the lens of case histories of individuals with neurological disorders. Recently, however, he had been reflecting on his experiences with such patients in the context of a lifetime of medical practice, and in light of recent neuroscientific evidence and theories. The River of Consciousness will be a broader and more direct look at how the brain and mind work, as always, incorporating Sacks' rich historical and personal context. Advances in neuroscience have revolutionized our ability to visualize the brain in action. For the first time we are able to close the gap between the philosophical questions which have consumed the world's thinkers since the eighteenth century and the true physiological basis of perception and consciousness.

 

In The River of Consciousness, Sacks will examine questions of memory, time, and consciousness. How do we think, how do we remember? Do different individuals have different speeds or ways of thinking? Is memory reliable? How do the neural correlates of memory differ for true memories and false memories? How do we construct our sense of time, our visual world? What is consciousness, neurologically speaking? And most importantly, what is creativity? Sacks completed the research for this book before he died, and with instructions on how it was to be put together. This is a remarkable culmination of a lifetime's research into the way the brain works.

Die "Neuen"

Es wird mal wieder an der Zeit, die neu eingetroffenen Bücher (und eine CD) vorzustellen. Es sind zwar viele Bücher auf einen Haufen - aber sie wurden von Jänner bis September vorbestellt und sind eben erst jetzt erschienen. Die längste Wartezeit war der neue Aaronovitch, den ich am 1. Jänner 2018 bestellt habe. Ein Buch für mein Musikprojekt (das ich leider im Oktober vernachlässigt habe, aber dafür im April zwei gelesen habe), habe ich am 11. Jänner bestellt. Die Michelle Obama-Biographie habe ich Anfang März geordert, "Dance in America" und "Britain by the Book" Anfang September. Die restlichen Bücher sind aus aktuellen Bestellungen.

 

Einige Vorbestellungen sind noch ausständig und ich habe bereits jetzt den neuen Roman von Erin Morgenstern vorbestellt. "Der Nachtzirkus" war eines der schönsten und fantasievollsten Bücher, die ich gelesen habe und ich hoffe, der neue Roman wird mindestens genau so gut. Erscheinen wird er im November 2019, ich kann mich also lange drauf freuen.

Die Donau - mein Lieblingsfluss

Heute Abends habe ich das Buch über die Klassiker ausgelesen und es hat mir sehr gut gefallen, wie immer Michael Dirda's Bücher. Allerdings durch das finstere Wetter habe ich mir irgendwie schwerer getan, ich glaube ich brauche neue Leuchten im Wohnzimmer.

 

Morgen werde ich passend zur Schifffahrt mit der MS Prinzessin Sisi eine Anthologie über die Donau lesen und ich freue mich schon sehr drauf. Und mein erstes Buch in deutscher Sprache seit Ende August.

Buch zum Thema Klassiker

Leider habe ich gestern Abend das Buch über die Raben im Londoner Tower ausgelesen. Für mich eines meiner absoluten Highlights in diesem Jahr. Mir hat das Buch so gut gefallen, das ich es gleich auch meinen Eltern versprochen habe - allerdings kommt es in deutscher Sprach erst im März 2019 auf den Markt. Und ich würde es am Liebsten all denen schenken, die Raben (und natürlich auch Krähen) genau so sehr lieben, wie Inge, Franzi und ich das tun. Einfach nur ein tolles und empfehlenswertes Buch. Christopher Skaife hat auch das Buch von Boria Sax erwähnt, das bei mir ebenfalls schon auf eine Lesestunde wartet.

 

Heute habe ich dann in der U-Bahn wieder mit einem Buch über Bücher begonnen, dieses Mal über die nicht ganz so üblichen Klassiker. Bisher gefällt es mir sehr gut, wie alle von Michael Dirda.

Die Raben des Tower of London

Gestern in der Straßenbahn habe ich mein Totenbuch ausgelesen und war echt begeistert. Es gibt so viele - für uns vielleicht etwas seltsame - Rituale, mit Tod und Trauer umzugehen, und so viele verschiedene Beerdigungsriten. Gut, das mit den Köpfen in Bolivien, die man Besucht und um einen Rat bittet oder um Erfolg, Geld, Glück in der Liebe wäre nicht so meines. Und auch nicht die Gewohnheit der Bewohner Süd-Sulawesis, noch monate- oder jahrelang mit den Toten zusammen zu leben und sie immer wieder zu waschen und umzuziehen kann ich mich nicht wirklich anfreunden.  Befremdlich - vor allem für die Angehörigen - fand ich auch eine "Naturverbrennungszeremonie" in einer Stadt in Colorado, wo der Tote in freier Natur auf einen Stein gelegt und mit Zweigen bedeckt und dann angezündet wird. Ich möchte jedenfalls nicht zusehen und auch nicht am nächsten Tag dann aufräumen. Einfach in der kalifornischen Wüste im Nirgendwo eingegraben zu werden, wäre dann schon eher meines. Am Liebsten ist mir aber immer noch der mexikanische Dia de los Muertes, wo der verstorbenen Angehörigen mit einem Fest auf dem Friedhof gedacht wird, wo es kleine Altäre mit Blumen und Fotos des verstorbenen zuhause gibt, mit Zuckerwerk und viel gutem Essen und Trinken.

 

Heute Nachmittag beginne ich dann mit einem der neuen Bücher über meine - und die meiner Familie - Lieblingsvögel, den Raben. London ist außerdem eine meine Lieblingsstädte, und die Raben passen auch vorzüglich zum tristen November.

Allerheiligen und Allerseelen

Passend zum heutigen Feiertag und dem morgigen Allerseelen-Tag habe ich mir ein Buch ausgesucht, in dem es um Trauer- und Beerdigungsriten rund um die Welt geht. Und mit knapp 250 Seiten sollte ich es auch bald wieder ausgelesen haben.

Das Bücherboot

Gestern habe ich die erotischen Geschichten ausgelesen, und ich bin mir nicht sicher, ob diese Fantasien wirklich alle von Frauen geschrieben wurden. Manches hat sich eher nach Männerträumen angehört, aber es waren ein paar nette Geschichten dabei.

 

Begonnen habe ich dann noch ein Buch über eine Buchhandlung, die auf einem Boot stationiert ist. Das wäre mein Traum: einen Schubkahn voll mit Büchern und damit die Donau rauf und runter bereisen und manchmal auch ein Buch verkaufen. Mal sehen, was der Schein für die Euromillionen morgen bringt...

Gestern Nachmittag habe ich mit einer Anthologie erotischer Fantasien von Frauen begonnen, und die ersten 100 Seiten habe ich auch schon gelesen. Da es verschiedene Frauen sind, sind natürlich auch die Stile völlig verschieden. Bis jetzt ist es ganz nett zu lesen und mal wieder was anderes. Aber 500 Seiten sind halt schon sehr viele...

Wieder sind einige vorbestellte Bücher von Amazon eingetroffen, reguläre Bestellungen natürlich auch. Gekommen ist eine ganz bunte Mischung: ein Reiseführer für unseren Bratislava-Ausflug, ein Liebesroman, zwei Weihnachtsbücher und drei Bücher über Raben, zwei davon handeln von London, dem Tower und den Raben, und ein Buch über Bücher. Ein Buch über die Themse liegt schon länger hier, auf das habe ich offensichtlich in meinen vorigen Einträgen zu den neuen Büchern vergessen.

Nachtrag zum Fluss-Projekt

Heute habe ich in der U-Bahn meine Einführung in die Psychologie ausgelesen. Es war wirklich nur eine Einführung, aber ein sehr spannendes und interessantes Thema, da werde ich mich sicher noch mehr einlesen.

 

Als mein nächstes Buch habe ich mir nun ein Buch ausgesucht, das mir schon 2016 Jahr bei meinem Fluss-Projekt übrig geblieben ist. Irgendwie ist es sich dann nicht mehr ausgegangen, es wurde aber auch erst spät geliefert. Jetzt freue ich mich, zum Murray River zu reisen.

Der Mensch und seine Psyche

Heute habe ich den Liebesroman ausgelesen - naja, eigentlich nur noch quergelesen. Was diese Geschichte mit Emma zu tun hatte, ist völlig an mir vorbei gegangen. Die Frauen in diesem Roman haben zwar angeblich alle gearbeitet, ich kann mir aber nicht ganz vorstellen, welche Arbeitszeiten die hatten. Denn meistens waren sie in irgendwelchen angesagten Clubs um Chivas Regal, Wodka und Champagner zu trinken, und sich ausländische Männer aufzureißen. Am Ende hat Jazzy, die Protagonistin dann festgestellt, das sie keinen Mann zum Glücklichsein braucht, und vor allem keinen reichen Ausländer. Dazu die seltsame Sprache... mein Roman war das nicht.

 

Morgen beginne ich dann mit einer Kurzeinführung in die Psychologie und das verspricht dann schon spannender zu werden. Mal sehen, was ich draus lernen kann.

Liebe in Singapur

Gestern am Nachmittag habe ich das Buch über die Raben und Krähen - meine Lieblingsvögel - ausgelesen. Viel Neues war nicht dabei, aber: es sind unglaublich kluge Vögel, die sich den Menschen sehr gut anpassen.

 

Heute habe ich dann mit einem weiteren Liebesroman begonnen, einer modernen Nacherzählung von Jane Austen's Emma in Singapur. Ich habe erst ein paar Seiten gelesen, bisher plätschert die Handlung einfach so vor sich hin.  Außerdem ist es in "Singlish" geschrieben, also so wie die Menschen in Singapur Englisch sprechen, und das macht es manchmal auch schwierig zu lesen. Aber es ist kurzweilige Unterhaltung, und was will man mehr.

Passend zum Herbst

Schon am Samstag habe ich meinen Roman über eine weitere Buchhandlung ausgelesen. Anfangs war ich nicht ganz so begeistert, aber als sich nicht nur die Liebesgeschichte, sondern auch die Kindheit und Jugend der Protagonistin entwickelt hat, hat mich das Buch doch in seinen Bann gezogen. Vielleicht auch, weil es gezeigt hat, das man manchmal über seinen eigenen Schatten springen muss, sich etwas trauen muss, aber auch mit sich selbst klarkommen muss. Und das letztendlich doch die Liebe ein Leben verändern kann.

 

Montag in der U-Bahn habe ich dann mit einem "herbstlichen" Thema begonnen: Dem Leben von Krähen und Raben. Ein Buch, das ich schon lange lesen wollte, aber das im Herbst nie bereit gelegen hat. Beim Umräumen der ungelesenen Bücher ist es mir aber in die Hände gefallen und ich habe es gleich mitgenommen.

Es gefällt mir sehr gut, vor allem auch durch die wunderschönen Zeichnungen.
