Eine Buchhandlung in San Francisco

Beim Heimfahren habe ich das Frischmuth-Buch ausgelesen, das mir letztendlich dann doch ganz gut gefallen hat. Es wird nicht mein Lieblingsbuch von ihr, aber mit der Verbindung Österreich, England, USA und der Türkei war's dann doch ganz nett.

 

Heute Abend habe ich dann mit einem gerade angekommenen Buch begonnen, das in einer Buchhandlung in San Franciso spielt. Und ich bin total in die Geschichte eingestiegen und freue mich schon, wenn ich Morgen weiterlesen kann.

Ausserdem habe ich gestern mein Vampir-Buch ausgelesen und mich dann heute für österreichische Literatur entschieden. Ich habe bisher etwa 120 Seiten gelesen und es gefällt mir - aber nicht so gut, wie andere Romane von Barbara Frischmuth:

Vampire in der Literatur

Schon am Freitag Abend habe ich das Buch über das Schreiben erotischer Szenen ausgelesen und fand es wirklich sehr gut. Es hat viele Beispiele gebracht, und klare - und vor allem kurze - Übungen vorstellt, die sich meiner Meinung aber nicht nur auf Erotik beziehen. Viele dieser Übungen betreffen generell das Svhreiben und ich werde das sicher einmal ausprobieren. Es war total interessant und ich denke schon, das man in dem schmalen Büchlein was lernen konnte.

 

Als nächstes geht es dann mit einem weiteren Sachbuch aus der Welt der Literatur und des Lesens weiter, und zwar mit diesem hier:

Nach dem fiktiven Selbsthilfebuch - das ganz nett war, aber auch nichts weltbewegendes - lese ich nun ein echtes "How To"-Fachbuch, in dem es wieder mal um's Schreiben geht. Was ich bisher in der Straßenbahn gelesen habe, wirkt für mich schlüssig und wer weiß, vielleicht werde ich ja doch noch mal Schriftstellerin.

Gestern Abend habe ich das Duke Ellington-Buch ausgelesen und mittlweile war ich ganz froh darüber. Es war zwar wahnsinnig interessant zu lesen und man hat auch viel über Musik, die Jazz-Szene und über Rassismus in Amerika erfahren. Aber es war halt doch ein ziemlich schwerer Schmöker mit fast 700 Seiten - da hätte es dann doch nicht so ausführlich sein müssen.

 

Heute Morgen mußte ich mich wie üblich schnell entscheiden, und habe mich für etwas Amüsantes entschieden, nämlich für dieses hier:

Gestern konnte ich mir von Amazon wieder auf der Post ein Paket abholen, in dem Bestellungen von Oktober, Dezember und Jänner ausgeliefert worden. Biographie im April

Gestern Abend habe ich den Kneifl-Krimi "Blutiger Sand" ausgelesen und wie immer wurde ich von ihr nicht enttäuscht. Der Roman war viel zu schnell aus, der hätte gute 200 Seiten mehr haben können. Mal sehen, was es von Edith Kneifl nocht gibt, jetzt habe ich ja bald alle gelesen.

 

Da noch etwas Zeit gestern Abend übrig war, habe ich mir etwas für mein Biographie-Projekt ausgewählt, und auch hier war ich nach etwa 30 Seiten begeistert, allerdings hat der Schmöker fast 700 Seiten...

Krimizeit

Nach dem Buch über Thailand's politische Geschichte - das teilweise spannend geschrieben war, teilweise aber auch einfach nur langatmig, habe ich mich nun für einen leicht zu lesenden Krimi einer meiner Lieblings-Krimiautorinnen entschieden. Bisher habe ich knapp über 100 Seiten gelesen und bin wie üblich begeistert und ich wünsche mir jetzt schon, das dieses Buch gute 200 Seiten mehr haben würde.

Ein Happen zwischendurch

Da mir die politische Geschichte Thailand nun doch um schwer für die Handtasche war, habe ich mich heute Früh für ein kleines Unterwegsbuch entschieden und dieses hier eingepackt. Von den 90 Seiten habe ich in der U-Bahn dann auch schon 63 Seiten auch schon wieder ausgelesen. Trotzdem geht es am Abend mit Thailand und Geschichte weiter.

Eine heitere Sammlung von Anekdoten
aus der Welt der Musiker

Inhalt: Die Wiener Philharmoniker hatten es nach dem ersten Weltkrieg schwer, ihren Konzertbetrieb aufrecht zu erhalten. Und so luden sie einmal einen unbekannten Gastdirigenten aus England ein, der dem Orchesterfonds eine beträchtliche Summe spendete. Nach der ersten Probe trifft einer Musiker einen Kollegen,  der nicht anwesend gewesen war: "Was dirigiert er denn?", fragte er: "Das wissen wir nicht, - wir spielen jeenfalls die Fünfte von Beethofen."

Bei der zweiten Probe wagte der Gast es, abzuklopfen und irgendeine Lächerlichkeit "auszubessern". Die Musiker blickten einander verdutzt an. Als sich die Unterbrechnungnoch zweimal wiederholte, erhob sich der Konzertmeister: "Wenn sie uns noch einmal unterbrechen, dann spielen wir so, wie Sie dirigieren!" - Es gab keine Unterbrechnungen mehr.

Immer wieder zitiert das Urteil, alle Theater seien Irrenhäuser, die Opernhäuser darunter aber die Abteilungen für Unheilbare…

Destination: Thailand

Über das Wochenende habe ich Rowohlt-Chronik (ein tolles Buch, wahnsinnig interessant) und den Liebesroman ausgelesen (naja, zu lange, viel zu kompliziert) ausgelesen und so musste ich mich gestern Morgen wieder mal sehr schnell für neue Lektüre entscheiden. So habe ich zu einem Buch gegriffen, das ich eigentlich näher an den nächsten Thailand-Urlaub 2014 lesen wollte. Ich habe bisher etwa 40 Seiten gelesen, und es ist nicht mein einfachstes Buch.

Tag der Bibliothek bei EVVA

Vorige Woche gab es in unserer Firma zwei Tage der Bibliothek. Ich hatte ja frei, aber Robert hat die Bibliothekstage besucht. Dieses Jahr wurde nicht nur die Firmenbibliothek vorgestellt, sondern es wurde auch eine Tauschbörse geboten - und Robert kann halt auch nicht auch der Haut. Er hat gleich 5 Bücher für mich mitgenommen, zwei will er aber unbedingt auch lesen, bzw. eines hat er heute schon mitgenommen.

Im Moment lese ich an zwei Büchern gleichzeitig. Das Eine wäre nämlich zu groß und zu dick und ist einfach nicht handtaschengeeignet. Deshalb gibt es das große Buch für Abends und für unterwegs ein Taschenbuch.

Zurück nach Burma

Heute habe ich noch schnell die Biographie von Patrick Leigh Fermor ausgelesen. Sie hat mir gut gefallen, aber sie war auch ein wenig zu ausführlich. Jedenfalls war seine Jugend betrifft - die Zeit aber der 80er Jahre bis zu seinem Tod 2011 war dann sehr schnell abgehandelt. Und irgendwie ging es nur um die Reisen und das Schreiben und man hat wenig vom Menschen Paddy erfahren.  Trotzdem ein toller Mann, ein tolles Leben und ein tolles Buch.

 

Heute bin ich dann für mein zweites Leseprojekt zurück nach Burma und zu Aung San Suu Kyi gereist. Ich habe jetzt die ersten Briefe gelesen und bin total begeistert.

Gestern Abend habe ich die kurz dazwischengeschobene Friedhofs-Anthologie ausgelesen und war wieder begeistert - hoffentlich bringt der Falter-Verlag noch einige dieser Tatort-Bücher heraus. Es macht einfach Spaß, diese Kurzkrimis von bekannten Wiener Örtlichkeiten zu lesen.

Päckchen von Amazon und Weltbild

Irgendwie bin ich diese Woche gar nicht dazu gekommen hier einzutragen, was ich gerade lese - es waren aber sowieso nur zwei Bücher.

 

Meine erste Lektüre nach dem Österreichischen Humor war ein Kochbuch, nämlich dieses hier:

Georg MARKUS

Wenn man trotzdem lacht

Geschichten und Geschichte des Österreichischen Humors

Inhalt: Georg Markus hat sich wieder auf Spurensuche begeben – und dabei ein faszinierendes Kapitel österreichischer Geschichte aufgespürt: Anhand zahlreicher Beispiele zeigt er auf, wie es zum „Wiener Schmäh“, zum jiddischen und anderen Witzen kam und wie das Lachen hierzulande eine geradezu existenzielle Bedeutung erlangte. Der Frohsinn konnte – selbst in schweren Zeiten – nur entstehen, weil aus Österreich eine Vielzahl genialer Humoristen hervorging. Georg Markus beschreibt das Leben der großen Satiriker, Kabarettisten und Spaßmacher und dokumentiert anhand Hunderter Beispiele ihren Witz, ihren Geist und ihren Scharfblick.

Sie alle werden in „Wenn man trotzdem lacht“ durch ihre Pointen wieder lebendig.

Rund um die Uhr

Mit meiner albanisch/amerikanischen Lügnerin Lula wurde ich heute fertig. Das Buch hat mir gut gefallen, nur der Schluß war etwas unlogisch und hat irgendwie nicht gepasst. Das sie mit einer ebenfalls albanischen Freundin zusammenzieht und ein neues Leben beginnt - fand ich okay. Aber wie es geschehen ist... keine Ahung, fand ich irgendwie seltsam. Trotzdem ein tolles Buch.

 

Heute Abend konzentriere ich mich wieder mal auf die Ethymologie der englischen Sprache, und zwar mit diesem Buch:

Albaner in America

Gestern Abend habe ich das Burma-Buch ausgelesen und es hat mir gut gefallen. Ich hatte vorher gar nicht gewusst, das George Orwell in Burma gedient hat und auch Familienangehörige dort hatte.

 

Ab heute führt mich dann die Geschichte der Albanerin Lula nach America. Angelesen hat es sich bisher jedenfalls spannend und gut. Obwohl ich  - passend - zum Valentinstag eigentlich einen Liebesroman lesen wollte, aber da habe ich keinen englisch-sprachigen auf dem Stapel gefunden. Und umstapeln hat mir keinen Spaß gemacht...

George Orwell in Burma

und seine Romane sind das Thema meines nächsten Buches. Ich habe es gestern Abend schon angelesen und find es bisher sehr interessant. Und was mir schon in mehreren Büchern über Burma/Myanmar aufgefallen ist: viele Burmesen sind sehr an Literatur und Büchern interessiert - und das gefällt mir natürlich besonders.

Wieder in Wien

Heute Abend habe ich das Buch von Tony Bennett ausgelesen und ich war begeistert. Böse Zungen werden es als "Selbsthilfebuch" abkanzeln, aber eigentlich hat Tony Bennett darüber geschrieben, was er von Jazzgrößen gelernt hat und weitergeben möchte. Das das Leben ein Geschenk ist und man sich dessen bewußt sein sollte. Das Leben immer (dazu)lernen bedeutet und flexibel zu sein. Das sich Qualität gegen alle Moden durchsetzt - und ich fand auch schön, was er über junge Talente, wie z.B. Michael Bublé, Diana Krall, Amy Whinehouse und Lady GaGa zu sagen hatte. Ein tolles, lebensbejahendes Buch von einem Mann mit 86 Jahren. Da kann man sich nur wünschen, im Alter genau soviel Lebensfreude zu haben. Ein Highlight des Jahres 2013.

 

Duchgeblättert habe ich dann noch folgendes Buch mit vielen Fotos. War ganz nett, aber die Fotos hätte ich besser machen können, davon bin ich überzeugt. Letztendlich wurden die Stadtbahnbögen nur abfotografiert - ohne Charme, ohne Eigenheiten. Langweilig, aber ganz bestimmt nicht "Extraklasse".

Biographie im Februar

Heute habe ich das Wien-Buch ausgelesen und es hat wirklich versprochen, was man mir versprochen/empfohlen hat. Politik, Architektur, Literatur, Musik und Malerei in Fin-de-Siecle, in sieben Essays verbunden, und alle sehr recherchiert geschrieben. War ein tolles Buch und hat mir diese Zeit und Wien wieder auf eine andere Weise nahegebracht.

 

Heute Abend habe ich dann meine Februar-Biographie begonnen und auch sie hat mir nach den ersten Seiten schon begeistert. Wahnsinn, welche Lebensfreude dieser Mann hat. Einfach nur toll und hoffentlich habe ich das mit 86 auch ;-)
