Abend habe ich das nachstehende Buch begonnen, von dem ich dann gleich noch 72 Seiten gelesen habe. Bisher gefällt es mir ganz gut, typische Chick-Lit eben.

dtv bei Hintermayer

Heute gab es bei Hintermayer jede Menge verbilligter Taschenbücher aus dem dtv-Verlag. Da dieser Verlag immer gute und interessante Schriftsteller herausbringt, und auch gute Sachbücher mußte ich natürlich gleich zuschlagen. Ich habe mich zwar beherrscht, aber fünf Bücher mußte ich einfach haben. Dabei wurden bei den verbilligten englischen Taschenbüchern auch gerade neue eingeräumt... aber nächste Woche werden die auch noch da sein!

Welches neue Buch zum Lesen ich heute abend beginnen werde überlege ich derzeit noch... mal sehen, was es wird. Vermutlich aber wieder was in Englisch.

Mein neues Wochenendbuch

ist nach längerer Zeit wieder einmal ein Krimi. Nachdem "The Art of Seduction doch anspruchsvoller war, möchte ich jetzt was lesen, das einfach nur spannend ist, aber auch schnell zu lesen ist.

Lieblingsautor

Nachdem ich nun mit der Biographie über Grace Kelly und ihrer Jahre als Prinzessin von Monaco durch bin, habe ich mich nun wieder für einen meiner Lieblingsautoren entschieden:

und zwar aus Österreichs Kriminalgeschichte. Der neue Roman von Kathy Reichs hat mir übrigens wieder außerordentlich gefallen - wenn auf Englisch mit all den Fachbezeichnungen nicht einfach zu lesen.

Über das Produkt: Die "schaurige Geschichte" Österreichs: Im frühen Mittelalter war Mord Privatsache, das "Wergeld" sühnte die Tat. Bei Verbrechen gegen die Allgemeinheit aber büßten die Täter ihre Schuld mit ihrem Leben. Anna Ehrlich zeigt auf, wie Verbrechen "von Amts wegen" verfolgt und bestraft wurden und wie Strafrechtspflege zum Mittel der fürstlichen Macht verkümmerte. ENDLICH

konnte ich heute die neue Kathy Reichs beginnen. Der Coetzee hat sich dann doch etwas gezogen, obwohl das Buch nicht uninteressant war und viele literarische Anspielungen hatte - auch sehr viel Österreichisches. Aber die Romane um Temperance Brennan gehören doch zu meinen Lieblingen.

Ich habe mir heute nur zwei Bücher gekauft, bzw. eines hatte ich bei Thalia vorbestellt. Das Andere war von Hintermayer - eines von den billigen. Die neue Kathy Reichs wird dann auch gleich mein nächstes Buch.

Mein neues Buch

Nach dem Franzen werde ich mich nun einem weiteren Autoren moderner Literatur widmen, nämlich dem zweimaligen Booker-Prize Winner J. M. Coetzee. Der Franzen hat mir übrigens sehr gut gefallen, nur das Ende fand ich dann übertrieben und irgendwie hingeschludert.

Elizabeth Costello

For Australian writer J.M. Coetzee, winner of two Booker Prizes and the 2003 Nobel Prize for Literature, the world of receiving literary awards and giving speeches must be such a commonplace that he has put the circuit at the centre of his book, Elizabeth Costello. As the work opens, the eponymous Elizabeth, a fictional novelist, is in Williamstown, Pennsylvania, to receive the Stowe Award. For her speech at the Williamstown's Altona College she chooses the tired topic, "What Is Realism?" and quickly loses her audience in her unfocused discussion of Kafka. From there, readers follow her to a cruise ship where she is virtually imprisoned as a celebrity lecturer to the ship's guests. Next, she is off to Appleton College where she delivers the annual Gates Lecture. Later, she will even attend a graduation speech.
Coetzee has made this project difficult for himself. Occasional writing--writing that includes graduation speeches, acceptance speeches, or even academic lectures--is a less than auspicious form around which to build a long work of fiction. A powerful central character engaged in a challenging stage of life might sustain such a work. Yet, at the start, Coetzee declares that Elizabeth is "old and tired", and her best book, The House on Eccles Street is long in her past. Elizabeth Costello lacks a progressive plot and offers little development over the course of each new performance at the lectern. Readers are given Elizabeth fully formed with only brief glimpses of her past sexual dalliances and literary efforts.
In the end, Elizabeth Costello seems undecided about its own direction. When Elizabeth is brought to a final reckoning at the gates of the afterlife, she begins to suspect that she is actually in hell, "or at least purgatory: a purgatory of clichés". Perhaps Coetzee's Elizabeth Costello, which can be read as an extended critique of clichéd writing, is a portrait of this purgatory. While some readers may find Coetzee's philosophical prose sustenance enough on the journey, some will turn back at the gate.

Heute konnte ich endlich mein Paket von Jokers auf der Post abholen. Der Briefträger hat anscheinend die Benachrichtigung verschlampt und ich warte und warte... aber heute war es ja soweit...

Immerhin habe ich es geschafft, heute nur ein Buch zu kaufen... aber mit diesem Buch habe ich auch schon lange geliebäugelt und es hat nur € 3,99 gekostet - ein echtes Schnäppchen...

Das Buch von Nick Hornby über sein Lesen hat mir sehr gut gefallen, und bereits im Vorwort mußte ich ihm einige Male zustimmen (z.B. das man nie genug Bücher hat...). Heute Abend werde ich dann beginnen:

Nick Hornby liest...

Gestern Abend habe ich den Pamuk ausgelesen, der mir wieder sehr gut gefallen hat - auch wenn The New Life von manchen Kritikern und Lesern als nicht so gelungen beschrieben wurde. Jedenfalls hat mich das Thema "Buch" wieder zu einem Buch über Bücher gebracht. Eine Art "Lesetagebuch" von Nick Hornby.

Österreichische Autorin

Heute Abend werde ich mit einer österreichischen Autorin beginnen, von der ich schon einiges gelesen habe. Mit deutschprachigen Schriftstellern habe ich ja oft Probleme, im allgemeinen liegen mit die englischsprachigen Autoren, bzw. Orientalen oder Lateinamerikaner besser. Aber Barbara Frischmuth lese ich immer wieder gerne, diesesmal einen politischen Krimi.
