Book Description: A thought-provoking collection inspired by life in the world's greatest city, like New York City itself, profound, amusing, tough, and amazingly varied. Includes contributions from Humphrey Bogart, Robert F. Kennedy, Sammy Davis Jr., George Gershwin, Margaret Sanger, Walt Whitman, Edith Wharton, Woody Allen and many more.
"New York is to the nation what the white church steeple is to the village - the visible symbol of aspiration and faith, the white plume saying the way is up." --E.B. White
"Of all my parents' friends, the only one happy going to work was a member of 120 Truck. I was only 16 then, but that was when I decided I wanted to be a fireman." --Peter J. Ganci, Jr., Chief of Department, FDNY
"I'm not the type to get ulcers. I give them."

"When I am close to finishing a book, nothing is more important to me. I might stop to save a life, but nothing less. - Joseph Heller -
