Mein Neues Buch

Write Away

One Novelist's Approach To Fiction And The Writing Life

From the Back-Cover:

"The Art of Writing is all about the inspiration of the moment and the excitement of riding the wave of an idea. The Art of Writing is what you get to do once you become familiar with the craft."

Elizabeth George is an author of international repute, whose Inspector Lynley crime novels appear on bestseller lists all over the world. She has also been a teacher of writing for a number of years.

Now she shares with us her philosophy of the craft of fiction writing: comprehensively covering topics such as character, plot, landscape and dialogue, this renowned writer offers generous tips and tricks of her trade.

Combining erudition with accessibility, and drawing on material from her own novels, as well as from a wide variety of other writers, to illustrate her points, she provides an inspiring template for any would-be author of fiction.

Elizabeth also prefaces each chapter with extracts from her own Journal - the diary she keeps every time she embarks upon a new novel - and these give a compelling insight into the creative mind.

"Beginning a book is terrifying. I can see why some writers go from book to book at a pace that allows them virtually no time off. I don't want to live that way, and as a result, I have to face my demon fear each time I begin a novel. But Steinbeck faces it; Marquez continues to face it. If Nobel Prize winners can admit their fears, so can I."
